COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND PROJECTS

“Spreading Seeds of Support, Comfort and Hope in Our Community”

York Manor Garden Club offers various types of support to our community. Through the annual holiday greens and floral arrangement sale, funds raised support YMGC in donating to the environment, in honoring those who have served, and in enhancing the quality of life for children and adults in communities throughout Baltimore.

Yearly YMGC donations include:

  • Plant a Tree Program that focuses on the reforestation of America.  YMGC’s  contribution reforests one acre of land annually.

  • Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. A yearly donation to this organization that focuses on the preservation, restoration and sustainability of the Chesapeake Bay, its rivers and streams. 

  • Wreaths Across America.  A long-standing contribution is made yearly to support those who have served.

  • Community Services – Westfield Assisted Living Community. 
    In 2025, YMGC began a partnership with Westfield Assisted Living in Baltimore County to provide gardening enjoyment for the residents. Phase 1 of the partnership enhanced the outdoor living space through a variety of container gardens located at the front door and on the deck area.  In the spring of 2026, Phase 2 expanded the partnership by creating a pollinator garden that encourages butterflies, birds and bees to visit the garden.  A committee from YMGC began planning in January 2026.  Realizing the scope of this project, key members looked for support. YMGC was awarded a matching grant, “Gifts for Great Gardens Grant “, through the District III of the Federated Garden Clubs of MD.  Benjamin Bell, from St. Isaac Jogue’s Boy Scout Troop #124 developed and implemented an Eagle Scout Service Project Plan to assist YMGC.  Through his active engagement in working with YMGC, his solicitation of donations from local nurseries, and organizing volunteers from his Boy Scout Troup, the project that was anticipated to be completed in 2027 was completed by April 2026. Coined “The Big Dig”, volunteers removed overgrown shrubs, stumps, roots, poison ivy, vines, and major weeding of a 600+ square foot area.  Cleanup was followed by soil prep using organic compost for the 9ft x 68ft two-tiered garden that was anchored by a slope and steps. Garden design and planting of more than 120 evergreens, shrubs and perennial plants was made possible by the generous donations from local garden nurseries. Members from Boy Scout Troop #124 and parents assisted YMGC members and their spouses in the “Big Dig”  and massive planting.  YMGC acknowledges, with deep appreciation, the donations made by the following garden nurseries:

    • Herring Run Nursery/Bluewater Baltimore
    • McLean Nursery
  • Postcards of Encouragement for the Baltimore Hunger Project.
  • In September 2025, YMGC  kicked-off the new garden club year with a workshop that created 100+ postcards of encouragement with the nature theme of flowers, bees, butterflies.  The postcards were placed in the weekend meal bags for children in the Baltimore area.
